When In Doubt...Crochet!

Well ladies and gents, I'm still not moved yet.  This means I still don't have my crafting stuff.  :-(  It's looking like I'm going to be buying my Christmas cards this year, which makes me sad since I haven't done that in years, but such is life.  Hopefully next year will bring new surroundings for me, and return me to my craft stuff!

Even though I don't have my sewing machine, and scrapbooking/card making stuff, I do have my crochet hooks!  Most of the yarn I have is in storage too, but I have purchased some and I've been crocheting to give me something to do to fill that crafty hole!  I finished a baby afghan the other day.  I think it is super cute, and will eventually be placing it on etsy.  The pattern takes a bit of time, simply because in the petal squares you have to change yarn color almost every row.  It turned out lovely though!

I've already begun on a new hooded afghan for a baby since I needed something simple to do after that beast!  It's also the only pattern I remember how to do by memory since all my patterns are, you guessed it...in storage! I have enough yarn left over from this project too that I'm making a scarf when I feel adventurous, lol.

Anywho, just a quick note to say I haven't given up crafting, and I haven't forgotten this blog.  Just still waiting!  If you are interested on how things are going in my personal life, I tend to post more on my other blog, Learning To Love Me, and try to keep this one simply about crafting.  Hope everyone in the US enjoys Thanksgiving, and I'll post any new projects as I complete them!  =)

Cooking

So most people spend their evenings making a quick meal and vegging out in front of the television. Me I study and cook. Paper crafts have had a hard time finding their way into my schedule since classes began, but I have been a crocheting machine, and I've been cooking a lot. For instance this evening I made chicken pot-pies. Fairly simple, but it sure feels like a meal that is special.


These will feed me by the way, for the rest of the month I think! I really enjoy cooking, and love cooking for other people but I don't get a lot of visitors. :-( Yes I am trying to guilt you all to come and visit me. ;-) I even create my own recipes and I'm thinking I should people to test them out since I've dabbled with the idea of seeing if I could get a cookbook published. I dream big, lol.

In other news I crocheted a baby blanket with some leftovers from Jennifer's blanket. It's uber adorable and has a hood, which I have found out a lot of moms really like. I haven't photographed it yet but this is what it looks like, only in red.


That's all I've got for now, but as the school year continues I hope that I'll be able to post a few times a month. Now to go enjoy my creation, and watch some TV shows that are premiering! Yay for Criminal Minds, and the Big Bang Theory tomorrow night!!! =)

Crochet

That's right I admit it, I'm a 27 year old who crochets...and likes it!!! My mother knits and crochets, so I remember as a child watching every winter as she pulled out her craft items, knitting needles, crochet hooks, and counted cross stitch kits. Now I have tried all of them through the years and it seems that the only one that I really have the patience for crochet. In my teens I attempted counted cross stitch...the first attempt is still lying in a box somewhere at my parents home unfinished. I also tried knitting in my teems. My mother felt that this would be easier than crochet to begin with...the wonky scarf is most likely buried with the cross stitch effort. I was so frustrated with my knitting efforts that I didn't attempt crochet until a few years ago. A good friend of mine was having a baby and at the time my mother was on a big crochet kick...so I asked her to teach me how to make a baby blanket for her. Both the baby and her mother loved it!



After I made that first blanket I found out I had to have knee surgery and would be in bed for about a week...I needed something to do. So it began and hasn't stopped since. I slow down over the summer, and depending on my school load, I usually make two to three full sized blankets a year, three or four baby/lap blankets, and a hand full of scarfs. I hope to get a table at an annual craft fair in a nearby city this winter and sell some of the ones that I have accumulated. I'm also going to try and post some on my Etsy shop and see if they sell there at all.

Anywho, after the past six months or so I have finally finished my most recent blanket. Although making all the pieces wasn't a big deal, piecing them together took quite a while, especially with finals this year. I love the way that it turned out though! Next time I use this pattern I might make it a little larger since it is a bit of a lap blanket but the pattern I think is beautiful! Now I get to begin on a new crochet project which makes me really happy!
